Is GT6 easier than GT5? And not as much fun as 4?

So I've been playing GT6 a bit here and there since Christmas. My overall impression is that it's easier. Weirdly, although the cars behave more realistically in some ways (brake dive & body roll in particular), it just seems... easier. I'm clearing license tests with golds after one or two tries, instead of months of practice and one final, lucky run. I'm beating mission races with gold on the first try. I'm winning races by many, many seconds with bone stock cars with far less than max PP.

I also think I dislike the decision to put every car in the game in the showrooom. I miss the prize cars. I keep trying to convince myself that's NOT because of microtransactions being introduced, and that it was because the fans demanded it. By part of the fun was the surprise when you finally found that rare, coveted car on the used lot. Given, I DO prefer it to the way GT3 handled prize cars. That just sucked.

For me, aside from engine sounds, GT4 is still the pinnacle of the game in terms of being well rounded. And honestly, I wish GT2 would get the HD treatment. That one was the most outright fun.

I too miss the used car lot. The day it came out, my friends and I were going to do a "top gear used car showdown" where we had to buy and prep cheap cars for less than 10,000 and then draw challenges and races from a hat. Well you can imagine our surprise when we popped it in to find no used car lot.....

Have not played GT6, but the things you mention I'm glad to hear. I have limited time, and certainly not enough to spend months and months passing license tests. GT5 was a grind, and frankly I've moved on. Done.

It's sad, I've been playing since the PS1 days.

I have also found the license tests easier. I was hoping it was more of increased driver skill than lower bar setting.

5 I actually liked a lot. I never thought I'd care about the online and didn't touch it for over a year, but when I finally did, there was some seriously fun and competitive racing. With 6 I'm finding I just want my damn cars so I can race people. The "story" races were always to easy, but I'm having trouble allocating the time to pour into the game to get money. And I'm upset the tune for my Stratos from 5(which took days to get right) does not translate well to 6.

Agreed 2 is amazing, but at least we got Apricot Hill back.

Learned something fun about GT6 last night - the entire infield at Willow Springs is open for hooning. Kind of like a mini salt flats, with a few more bumps. My M4 was thoroughly thrashed by the time I was done with it.

I missed GT so much I bought a used PS2 just to play GT4.

Then I remembered how much I loathed the damn license tests. Game Shark to the rescue there.

GT2 was seriously very fun. I adored the R390 road car in that game. It was so good it was almost cheating.

Maybe they made the golds a bit easier so that you can get more prize cars since they took away the used cars. I also loved looking through the used cars in GT5 every time and getting a thrill when I came across something I really wanted.

I found the realism of GT6 to be easier as well, but my driving might have improved as a result of playing iRacing. But I think it's decidedly better, even if it's just more predictable.

I do love me some GT2 and GT4. Would definitely buy remakes of those.

I too find GT6 pretty damn easy (admittedly, I am awesome though). I need to find where to bump up the difficulty. As of now, you can pass pretty much anything computer driven in a braking zone as they break about 80m too early. Then once you pass them, they just seem to give up. Ehhh...

GT3 is always the forgotten hero, it had Complex String! It also had the first iteration of Formula 1 cars...

I think that even with the more realistic handling, GT6 is a bit dumbed-down to make it appeal to a broader audience. In the previous games, you would really have to put in some time and effort to get golds on the license tests. Like you said, most of the GT6 tests can be beaten in one go, and there are considerably less of them. There are also the shortened "endurance races", which while fun, still make me wish for a few longer ones.

I do love GT6 though, even more so than GT5. It feels like a slight improvement over GT5 in just about every aspect. I agree that GT4 was probably the most fun in the series, but I really do think that GT6 comes close. More prize cars would be nice though, especially for some of the more expensive cars.

I've been obsessed with tuning my Dino. I'm a big fan of ridiculous little cars, and that one was a nice surprise to find in this game.

What did they do to the RX7s though? They're damn near impossible to control when tuned. Same with the NSX. So touchy.

The FFs in this game are more fun than in past versions. Off-throttle oversteer and torque steer. It's a hoot!

GT5 was a bit of a let down. I still played it to the exclusion of most other games, but I missed 4, especially the insane mission races.

Oh the brake dive is a little over the top. I swear I saw a Dodge Challenger throw its back wheels up and Monaco.

Removing the used car lot definitely takes a lot of collectability out of the standard cars. Back in GT5 I would try and find ALL of the Skylines, then ALL of the S2000s. then ALL of the Miatas, until I had well over 1000 cars...

Honestly I had just about given up on the GT franchise after 5sucked all the fun out of the cars. Things like not being able to paint some cars, not being able to change the displacement of a SB, the bad sound and the Japanese car bias drove me crazy. I understood it in 1-3, but seriously.
In GT6 cars handle more smoothly. Not better just more smoothly. Yeah licensing is easier, but I hating licensing. I just want to race and learn on the fly. For the future I'd like to see them add more nonJMD tuner shops. Brabus, Alpina, Hennessy, Lingenfelter stuff like that.
